Forget The Spray – 9 Plants That Naturally Keep Mosquitos Away

If you are trying to enjoy the wonderful healing benefits of nature there is nothing more annoying then mosquitos keeping you from enjoying the great outdoors. Sure they are part of nature and should be respected but that doesn’t mean that they need to be biting you every chance they get.

Unfortunately, many of the ‘remedies’ out there involve spraying chemicals on your body that are not very good for you or the environment either.

That is why we recommend using nature’s natural defense in your yard to keep the mosquitos away so that you can meditate, garden, or enjoy more healing time outside.

1. Catnip

shutterstock_381278809Now you may be thinking that this little plant is only for cats but it actually works wonders as a natural mosquito repellant!

Plants are complex organisms that have been evolving for millions of years and with that comes a natural ability to defend themselves against foreign intruders. In this case, they will help keep mosquitos away from your yard and family.

According to one study catnip was actually found to be up to 10 times more effective at keeping mosquitos away than DEET!

If you are planning on putting this in your garden plant it away from your other plants as it will attract cats who can easily trample your garden. Continue reading

Frankincense Has Been Proven To Be a Psychoactive Antidepressant

The Burning of Frankincense has been part of cultural and religious ceremonies for over a millennium! Frankincense is actually made out of a resin from the Boswellia tree which is made into oils, incense, and is used in everything from helping your soul reach higher spiritual planes to medicinal uses.

Ancient texts such as the new and old testament talk about frankincense as having mystical powers. Many different spiritual practices worldwide still use it to this day.

Johns Hopkins University teamed up with researchers from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem to explore Frankincense to see what kinds of effects it has on the mind.

Mind Soothing Effects

To measure the effects on the mind, researchers used some of the resin from the Boswellia tree known as incensole acetate and gave it to some mice. This test showed them that ‘incensole acetate’ effects the area of the brain where emotions reside.shutterstock_176330732

Incense from Frankincense directly affects a protein in the brain known as TRPV3. While we already knew that this protein affects our ability to feel warm sensations on our skin, it has a different warming effect on the mind. Continue reading

How Occasionally Sleeping Apart From Your Partner Strengthens Your Relationship

One of my favorites parts of a partnership is luscious time together in bed — snuggling, talking, connecting before bed and sharing about the day, making love, or simply being close to one another. So, it’s hard to believe such connection and intermingling could be a bit too good, but there is a side effect to sleeping in the same bed as our partners each night.

Those precious 6-10 hours (depending on how long you sleep) provide a vital healing not only for our physical bodies and cognitive functioning but also a time of expansion and reset for our energetic fields and auric integrity.

shutterstock_145834025We process huge amounts of our day’s experience and information during the dream time, travel through other realms, and recollect the wholeness of our aura after so much interaction and intermingling during the day.

When we sleep closely with a partner, the intermingling continues throughout the night, never allowing us to fully restore and clarify our own energetic space.

I was first exposed to this concept in a Human Design reading which said that as a Manifestor type, I needed at least 4 nights per week to sleep on my own. I thought back to the rare times in my adult life when I did not share a bed with a partner and noticed that I had always experienced a huge amount of growth, self-awareness, and self-exploration during those periods.

It made sense that allowing myself time like that regularly, even when in partnership, could help me grow, heal, and continue expanding my consciousness consistently, regardless of relationship status or setup.

10 PROVEN Health Benefits of Medical Marijuana

Medical Marijuana has now been legalized in 25 states including Washington DC and there are a lot of incredible reasons why. On top of relieving stress and inflammation, cannabis has been known to help people with many illnesses from seizures all the way to treating cancer.

Active Ingredients

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) are the two main active ingredients that we look at int he marijuana or cannabis plant. Both of these compounds are known as cannabinoids.shutterstock_230872459

Most strains of marijuana are focused on having a large amount of THC making the high CBD strains a lot more rare. Recently, because of the medical marijuana movement, CBD has started to gain the spotlight because of its incredible healing abilities.

Essentially the biggest difference between the two is that while THC will treat many medical issues it also can get you high. CBD treats many other medical issues while remaining non-psychoactive. In other words you will not get high from CBD.

This feature makes it much more appealing to the medical world because it reduces the side effects while also making it much safer for people to use when they need to function outside of the home or when children are needing treatment. Find out more of the differences between the two compounds here.

4 Potentially Toxic Beauty Products You Probably Use Every Day

As we strive to increase our health and awareness we all come to a realization that many of our household products contain chemicals that are actually harmful to us, our pets, or the environment.

Did you know that many of the common products we use each day for personal hygiene and care contain around 168 ingredients?  Since the average woman will use 12 different personal care products a day that is a lot of possible toxins to sort through!

When we get up in the morning it is common to use toothpaste, soap, shampoo & conditioner, shaving cream, body wash, lotion, makeup, deodorant, and even hair styling products.

While not everything we use is harmful there are many products that contain chemicals that will mess with our hormones and cause serious health issues. Some of the most common ingredients to watch out for are dioxins, phthalates, and parabens.

“12.2 million adults – one of every 13 women and one of every 23 men – are exposed to ingredients that are known or probable human carcinogens every day through their use of personal care products.” [2]

If you come into contact with these chemicals once or twice your body can detox from them, but when you use them every day they build up in your system and your body can’t keep up with the toxic load.shutterstock_258564728

“One of every 24 women, 4.3 million women altogether, are exposed daily to personal care product ingredients that are known or probable reproductive and developmental toxins, linked to impaired fertility or developmental harm for a baby in the womb or a child.

These statistics do not account for exposures to phthalates that testing shows appear in an estimated three-quarters of all personal care products but that, as components of fragrance, are not listed on product ingredient labels” (EWG et al. 2002).

When you decide that you want to live a more pure, higher quality life do some research and find products that that will improve your self-care. You can also check out resources such as the Think Dirty App and the EWG Healthy Living App to help you find what you are looking for. Continue reading

5 Tip For Raising Star, Crystal or Indigo Children

What does it mean to be a Star, Crystal or Indigo child? Many people see these labels as just that – simply labels that make a group of people feel special. The fundamental differences of a Star, Crystal or Indigo person is their core purpose in life.

Our consciousness exists beyond this physical realm, we’ve all experienced “life” outside of this physical reality.

When our awareness chose to incarnate on this planet, we chose a kind of template of our life. Throughout many life times, we have chosen contrasting experiences to better understand ourselves as an extension of Source or God. In this life, if you have chosen to create a beneficial, radical change through whatever means whether it be art, technology, science, writing – or anything you are passionate about; you are an Star, Crystal or Indigo child.

If you can see the blatant corruption of this world, see what’s really going on, dream of a world of unity, and think it can actually happen – you are an Star, Crystal or Indigo child.

If you think a 9 to 5 job, the design of our society and how things are going on this planet are “good” or “just the way it is”, you don’t fall into the category of Star, Crystal or Indigo people. That doesn’t mean you are less important, unique and beautiful in any way. It means your path is not shifting the state of the world.

That is THE quality all Star, Crystal or Indigo people share – it’s the intense desire for change.

As a child, almost all of us have this inherent understanding. Over time, we are conditioned and numbed to potential of what humanity could be. If you are a parent with a baby or young child, it is vital you allow them flourish in the way they need to. Children are naturally loving, non-judgemental, and incredibly wise when they are in a nurturing environment. Give you children the water they need for their seeds to grow.

World's Longest Hair (7)1

There are a number of other cultures, faiths and beliefs that also promote growing and hiding of hair, and it has long tradition throughout human culture.

Cutting hair is not like normal for us. Many of us experience haircuts as painfully traumatic and experience deep shock and a sense of loss afterwards. It’s like the intensity of breaking up with a lover kind of loss. Continue reading
