How To Deal With Family Members Who Don’t Understand Your Spirituality

Everyone is gathered around a nice conservative table for a family dinner.  Uncle Joe is talking about the news, your aunt can’t stop talking about how good the food is, and the vibes seem to be very uplifting.  Everything seems quite “normal”, until someone finds out you meditate, believe you are a soul, believe in conspiracy theories, or don’t eat meat.  Then, sh*t gets real.

You may find yourself being put on the spot, made fun or, or criticized for your beliefs and way of thinking quite often.  They may call what you do or believe “satanic”, or say that you are “lost” or will “grow out of it”.  One of the most difficult things about the awakening process is learning how to adjust to a world that seems indifferent.shutterstock_364100483

We come across all of this cool new information, we have amazing experiences in nature or in meditation, we have completely expanded our minds, and then we step back into a society that is asleep for the most part.  Some of the people that claim to love us will start becoming resistant to accepting us and supporting us during our awakening process.

So how do we deal with family members in our lives who judge you and don’t support us?  How do we deal with feeling alienated by the people who we grew up with, and how do we cope with trying to discover ourselves when our own family thinks we are looney?

Here are 3 tips to deal with family members who don’t understand your spirituality:

1) Know your stuff. Know it well.

This is super important.   We need to hold ourselves responsible for doing a good job sharing our knowledge with the world.  It’s crucial that we have something to offer to skeptics who would love nothing more than to strengthen their own belief that this progressive counter-culture movement is just a bunch of hogwash.  If you have any older family members, you know exactly the kind of resistance I am talking about.

shutterstock_87255307Hit them with some facts you have memorized and prepared incase you are asked to share your beliefs about something. You don’t need to be an encyclopedia, just have a few super clutch facts ready. Find the strongest 3 or 4 points for your position, and have them on file in your head.

If you are a vegan, memorize some of the most important environmental impacts of animal agriculture.  If you believe in a spirit world and afterlife, have some strong NDE cases ready to present in case somebody asks. I have a personal library in my head consisting of the evidence for the existence of the soul, tied in with philosophical arguments for us being soul/body composites.

They want knowledge, and quite frankly they deserve it. If we claim to know the truth, but are unable to justify our own position or show others WHY it is the truth, then what good does claiming to know it do?

WE are the ones charged with the responsibility to share the truth with others, and to do it well. We should at least have a solid knowledge-base prepared for when family members or other people try to bring us down and make us feel like we are on the wrong path. But knowing your stuff is not enough:

2) Stay levelheaded, and be sincere

Keep your kinship and friendship as the ground of your conversation. If your uncle is an atheist, don’t get angry at him when he takes a jab at your belief in God. Talk with him about it from your heart in a calm manner. Don’t speak from anxiety or tension.  Anxiety or tension may arise, but don’t let that be the source of your thought.shutterstock_379560253

I find that people start being more open-minded to alternative things when they can sense an authenticity to us and what we are saying. Sometimes, people will be easier to convince and more open-minded when they are in a good mood.  It’s just how human psychology works. So keep them in a good mood as you discuss with them, and you will see a change in their response when lightheartedness is the source.

Your goal should be to share information with them, not prove to them that you are right and they are wrong.  If you know what you are talking about and have sincere intentions, it just makes other people look silly when they try to bring you down.

3) Don’t take things personally

Honestly. Some people only know things they read about in the local morning paper, and don’t want to know anything outside of the old way of thinking. They get a rush off of challenging someone with a more alternative point of view, because it allows their ego to feel more validated and affirmed in its own correctness. Einstein once said intelligent people ignore foolishness, so don’t let them get under your skin.

shutterstock_287153663Some people will stay stubborn in their old beliefs because its more comfortable and convenient for them. If someone thinks you’re crazy because of your beliefs and interests, who cares?

Honestly. Why does it matter what people think of you? Even if it is your own family member, you goal shouldn’t be to seek their approval. Seek the truth. If you are grounded in the truth, and you know that, then what other people say or think about you really doesn’t matter.

So either help them by sharing knowledge with them, or let it go in one ear and out the other.

Know your stuff, come from a place of sincerity, and don’t take anything they say personally. It’s a pretty simple formula.

5 Life Changing Truths Your Soul Wants You To Remember

When it comes to living life, we spend almost 100% of our time living as an avatar.  We have an ego, a personality, a history, preferences, dislikes, beliefs, opinions, cultural viewpoints, and experiences.  These ingredients comprise our ‘person’ and our worldly sense of self.  But beneath all of these human ingredients lies one which is the foundation of all of them.  Without this ingredient, this avatar would not exist.  This ingredient is the soul.

The soul is timeless, eternal, and infinitely wise.  Our “intuition” is really just our soul whispering into the ear of our person.  You soul is not separate from you, but it will feel separate if you live life operating only from a personal or egoic level of consciousness.  Since the soul is the fountainhead of wisdom of guidance, it is always trying to communicate with us, especially in times where we are experiencing great suffering.

Here are 5 encouraging things your soul wants you to know:

1) You are meant to feel deeply

shutterstock_327751217You are meant to REALLY feel.  Don’t hold back your tears, and don’t think it is wimpy, soft, or overly sensitive to expressive yourself.

It is healthy to feel deeply and to give yourself permission to experience the richness of human emotion.  Feel love.  Feel sadness.

Don’t walk in between as you daydream, really take the time to amerce yourself in the moment.  This is what life is all about.

2) You are here to experience life

You are here to experience the fullness of life.  The ups and downs.  When all is said and done, you won’t care about your bank account, your material possessions, or the empty house you leave behind.  All you will care about is whether or not you took the time to appreciate the miracle of life.  You are alive.

Nobody knows why the universe exists, how it got here, or why consciousness exists, but here you are as a product of this grand mystery.  Have fun.  Live life.  It’s too short of a journey to not appreciate the experiences, relationships, and memories you have here. Continue reading

3 Signs You’re On The Wrong Path & How to Get Back To The Right One

Some may say that there is no such thing as the “wrong” path, and that every path is the right path.  But is this true?  Are we really being honest with ourselves when we say this?  From personal experience, I know what it feels like to be on the “wrong path”.  By “wrong”, I am referring to a path that does not suit you, serve you, or bring your soul alive.  You know in your heart, soul, and mind that there is something bigger and better out there for you.

These paths only serve the purpose of redirecting us to a more ideal path, and they provide us insight into what we don’t want out from life.  When we pay attention to the little feelings that bubble up in our soul, we can live a life that is guided by our intuition.  A life guided by your intuition is never the wrong path.

Here are 3 signs you may not be on the right path in life:

1) You feel empty inside

shutterstock_224565316You feel empty and unfulfilled inside.

You aren’t excited to wake up in the morning, and you feel like you will be unhappy for the rest of your life if things continue on the same way as they do.

If you feel like your current life is unsustainable for the rest of your life, and that if things don’t change you will go through your whole life miserable, then something has to change.   Continue reading

Meditation Vs Medication: 10 Reasons Why Meditation Is Better Than Taking Pills

Meditation is nature’s best healer.  It allows the body to reach a state of harmonic resonance, which puts the body into a state of regeneration.  When people feel ill, they often turn towards prescription medication without a second thought.  But what if meditation could cure and even prevent some diseases?

90% of all diseases and illnesses are either caused or aggravated by stress, and meditation is a great way to reduce the impact negative emotions have on our bodies and nervous systems.  A shift in consciousness causes a shift in biology, and when you are peaceful and calm during meditation, you release chemicals such as seratonin, oxytocin, and dopamine which help stabilize the immune system and regenerate your energy systems.  It also prevents the release of things like adrenaline and cortisol, which are completely taxing to the body.

Did you know that meditation is scientifically proven to:

1. Overcome stress (University of Massachusetts Medical School, 2003)

2. Boost your creativity (ScienceDaily, 2010)

3. Improve your sex life and increase your libido (The Journal of Sexual Medicine, 2009)

4. Cultivate healthy habits that lead to weight loss (Journal Emotion, 2007)

5. Improve digestion and lower blood pressure (Harvard Medical School)

6. Decrease your risk of heart attack (The Stroke Journal, 2009)

7. Help overcome anxiety, depression, anger and confusion (Psychosomatic Medicine,

8. Decrease perception of pain and improve cognitive processing (Wake Forest University School of Medicine, 2010)

9. Increase your focus and attention (University of Wisconsin-Madison, 2007)

10. Increase the size of your most important organ – your brain! (Harvard University Gazette, 2006)

Mediation has also been show to  reduce the risk of stroke and cardiovascular disease by almost 50% (American Heart Association, 2012).  What man-made pill can do that?

“There is a true biological effect,” said Dr. Denninger, director of research at the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital, one of Harvard Medical School’s teaching hospitals. “The kinds of things that happen when you meditate do have effects throughout the body, not just in the brain.”

In a day and age where medication is not cheap, and prescription drugs kill 100,000 people each year, it’s time we embrace a cheaper and more natural alternative form of healing into our medical community.  Keep in mind, meditation is not just about healing the body.  It DOES do miracles for the body, but to be honest, the physical benefits are usually the last reasons why people meditate.

Meditation also leads people to self-discovery, inner peace, mental clarity, spiritual/emotional balance, and is the best thing you could do if you are experiencing a period of suffering or confusion in your life.  Unlike pills, meditation also contributes to mental, emotional and spiritual health.

Now don’t get me wrong.  Western medicine is a miracle, and if you need to take antibiotics or some other kind of medication for a health problem you have, then take it.  But nowadays, you can walk into a hospital and be like “I just feel like, icky and weird and I don’t know…” and they’ll sell you medications without even knowing what the issue is.  Meditation, combined with a clean diet and exercise, is a surefire way to turn your illness around without side effects.

4 Spiritual Tools To Help Sharpen Your Intuition & Psychic Ability

Intuition is our natural psychic power.   It’s a sort of GPS system for our soul that allows us to navigate energy and potential outcomes.  When we learn to sharpen it, listen to it, and refine it, it can act as a sixth sense that can help guide as our on journey.

Although everyone has a natural intuitive connection, some have sharper intuition than others.  Regardless of how strong your intuition is, there are things you can do in everyday life to help strengthen it.  It’s important to realize that having a stronger intuition and increasing your psychic powers has very little to do with what you may call “spiritual tools” or other forms of divination.

You already have everything you need.  It’s just a matter of giving your spiritual antenna a little bit of a fine tuning.

Here are 4 simple steps you can take to sharpen your intuition:

1) Meditateshutterstock_350542424

When you learn to fully relax and clear your mind, you become much more receptive to the energies around you.

It’s important to understand that becoming more psychic and having a stronger intuition has less to do with effort and more to do with relaxing and allowing yourself to be at one with the flow of the universe.  Be still, and you will allow yourself to feel what you already have the ability to feel.

Slowing down the stream of mental chatter with even just 10-20 minutes of meditation a day is the best thing you can do for your intuitive abilities.

2) Ask the universe

shutterstock_429287098

Don’t be afraid to ask the universe for guidance.  Saying something like “show me a sign that I am supposed to do this” is a great way to show the universe with your energy that you are ready to receive.

A great way to sharpen your intuition is simply to be open to receiving guidance from the universe.

You are not alone, and your pursuit to sharpen your psychic and intuitive ability does not have to be a solo effort.  Ask, and ye shall receive.

3) Recognize the signs

Once you have tuned your spiritual antenna with meditation, and have asked the universe to show you the way and help guide you, now is the time to recognize the signs in your life.  Your guidance may come in forms of synchonicities, coincidences, repeating themes and patterns, or even a very strong pull in your being towards a certain route.

The universe WILL guide you and will show you the way once you surrender to its will and keep your eyes pealed for what it is trying to show you.

4) Proper rest and nutritionshutterstock_102461543

Getting proper rest and nutrition is key.  Your body is your vehicle, and thus it is your primary way of interaction with intuitive information.  Eat lots of clean foods like organic fruits and vegetables.

Avoid processed foods, fluoride, and chemicals.  Avoid tobacco, alcohol, and refined sugars.  When you fully purify your vehicle, you will be much more receptive psychic information.

The pineal gland is thought to be the third eye that connects us to higher dimension and transmits information from these dimensions into our brains where they are received by us.  Regardless of what mechanisms may be responsible for intuitive abilities, keeping your vehicle clean is a great way to step into a higher vibration.

Strengthening your intuition does not require anything outside of ourselves.  Nor does it require that was do strenuous self-work or practice forms of divination.  It is a simple matter of purity of mind and body, and aligning yourself with the flow of the universe while being willing to receive guidance.

The Science of Your Favorite Color: What Does It Say About Your Personality?

Color psychology is the fascinating science of how the colors of the light spectrum influence our mood and behaviour.  For example, placebo pills that are hot-colored tend to produce a stronger effect when patients believe they are taking stimulants, and light blue pills produce a stronger effect when they believe they are taking medication for depression.

According to a 1997 survey by Cooper Marketing Group, 35% of Americans say that their favorite color is blue, followed by followed by green (16%), purple (10%) and red (9%).  It is believed that blue and green have such a calming and positive effect on people because of what we would have associated these colors with in our ancient history.  50,000 years ago, blue and green would mean water, food sources and shelter.

You may have noticed that in different seasons of your life you have been drawn to different colors.  This is quite normal and represents the transition of your life from one phase to the next.  As our psychology evolves, so will our preferences.

So what does your favorite color (or colors) say about you? Find out below!

Black, Red, Brown or Gray

These colors all represent the protective root, or base chakra.  Those who are drawn to these colors usually have a tough exterior, and may be hiding a soft heart.  Strength and passion are characteristics of people who associate with these colours, and they are usually very energetic.

Orangeshutterstock_382113637

This color represents the sacral chakra.

Those who are drawn to the color orange are usually very creative and have a healthy sex life.

They love spending time on adventures, and tend to be very down-to-earth people.

Yellow

Yellow is the color of the solar plexus chakra. People who wear a lot of yellow tend to be powerful, action oriented people.  Because of this, they tend to make good leaders and good business people.  Although they are wise, they can also be very stubborn.

Greenshutterstock_196536488

Green represents the heart chakra.

If green is your favourite color, then you are likely very connected to your heart and your emotional center.

Because of this, these people tend to be very good healers and listeners.

They’re greatest joy in life comes from helping other people.

Blue

Blue is the color of the throat chakra.  Those who appreciate the color blue are often avid communicators, and can talk to anyone.  People who associate with blue are also tend to be more emotional and more empathetic, and may be introverted.

Purple

shutterstock_127274552Purple represents the third eye chakra.

If you love the color purple, chances are you are somewhat intuitive, and are able to sense what isn’t readily here in the physical dimension.

You may have enhanced psychic abilities because you identify with a higher mental or spiritual plane.

People who prefer purple are usually thirsty for knowledge.

Pink

Pink represents the crown chakra.  People who like pink tend to be joyful and eager to make other people happy.  They try to see the best in everything, and make the best of every situation.  They are light-hearted and outgoing.

Do these interpretations resonate with you? What is your favorite color?
